The Pensions Regulator has announced a series of launch events as part of a UK roadshow this year.
The events will cover a variety of topics, including, an introduction and overview of the Pensions Regulator, codes of practice and the regulator's relationship with the Pension Protection Fund. Dates in Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Belfast have already been confirmed.
The new powers of the Pensions Regulator will include the ability to collect more detailed scheme information, issue improvement notices and third party notices, freeze a scheme that is at risk, and disqualify trustees who are judged not fit and proper to carry out their duties.
The Pensions Regulator will be established as the new regulator of work-based pensions in the UK on the 6th April 2005.
The regulator will have wider and more flexible powers under the Pensions Act 2004 and will replace Opra, which will cease to exist.
