The majority of
UK pension funds have adopted the Institutional Shareholder Committee (ISC) principles on better engagement, according to a survey by the National Association of
Pension Funds.
A quarter of UK
pension funds said they will incorporate these principles into the contracts of their
investment managers, with some 60 per cent of UK pension funds having done so already.
Only three per cent of respondents were unaware of the ISC principles.
"This survey offers welcome evidence that the voluntarist approach to improving investor engagement has produced tangible results," commented Joanne Segars, the director of policy at the National Association of Pension Funds.
"The vast majority of pension funds are not only aware of the importance of their role in liaising with investment managers, but are taking effective and practical steps to enhance their decision making."
The survey also found that 94 per cent of UK pension funds believe there has been an improvement in corporate government over the last couple of years.
"There clearly remains scope for further progress, and the National Association of Pension Funds will continue to work with our ISC partners to promote the benefits of investor engagement in the coming months," Ms Segars added.
