Internet stocks and shares used to boost pensions

Tue, 09 May 2006

Growing numbers of over-50s are turning to playing stocks and shares on the internet in order to supplement their pensions, a new survey has revealed.

The list of money spinning internet activities includes buying and selling stocks and shares, trading via eBay and taking part in paid online market research . More than half of those using the internet to generate additional income play the stock market regularly, while slightly fewer buy and sell items on eBay. Such activity is allowing over-50s to boost income by up to £1,000 annually.

In addition to supplementing pensions, the internet is proving useful to those wishing to spend their pensions wisely. Fifty-four per cent used the web to find cheaper holidays, whilst fifty per cent find CDs and DVDs online. More than a third use the internet to purchase the latest gadgets, and one in twenty buy cars or caravans online. Others are downloading music at discounted prices and even running their own businesses online.
