Almost a third of people who recently arranged an appointment with an independent financial adviser were enquiring about
pension plans, it has been claimed.
The revelation has been made by
financing website unbiased.co.uk, owned by IFA Promotion, which analysed the banking needs of customers who requested an independent financial adviser in the last three months of 2006.
Taking a 30 per cent share of all requests,
pension plans came out top in the study, which may include issues such as
pension funds,
company pensions and generic pension advice.
Investments and
savings advice apparently took the second most popular spot, followed by requests for mortgage guidance in third place.
David Elms, chief executive of unbiased.co.uk, said that the research indicates more people are aware of the need to plan now for their
retirement pension needs.
"With the debate on provision for income in retirement intensifying, it is most reassuring to know that more and more consumers are ensuring they get the best possible advice," he said.
At the end of last year, the government confirmed that it was planning to implement the national
pensions savings scheme in 2012.
The proposed pensions scheme will involve automatic enrolment for almost all workers in full-time employment.
