Pension hitch with Jaguar

Fri, 09 Nov 2007

Public controversy this week over how large the pension fund deficit really is at beleaguered Ford car brands Land Rover and Jaguar . Claims have surfaced that combined, the pension fund deficit of the two brands could be as much as £1 billion. Ford has vigorously denied the claims.

Ford has been selling the two brands for some time now, in a deal that has been confirmed as nearing completion. The company employs over 2,000 people at its two brands. The news came as Ford released third quarter results.

Ford reportedly said: "The company continues to explore in greater detail the potential sale of Jaguar and Land Rover with interested parties and anticipates these discussions will culminate in an agreement no later than early next year."

The truth behind the pension fund claims will no doubt come to light in good time.
