Scottish pension funding row

Mon, 18 Aug 2008

A recent report indicates that the Scottish National Party has accused the government of not helping Scotland with funding for police force pensions .

The BBC indicate that new pensions legislation will allow members of the police force, firefighters and rescue workers to claim more of their pension as a lump sum cash payment.

To meet the requirement, England and Wales have reportedly been given more funding, but Scotland have not. SNP member Brian Adam reportedly commented: "The Treasury's refusal to provide Scotland with the funds to implement the new pension scheme for the police and fire and rescue services is bewildering."
