Government loses pensions battle

Fri, 08 Feb 2008

The government has lost a long and bloody pensions battle, when the Court of Appeal upheld a ruling that 125,000 people were mislead about their pension schemes when their companies collapsed.

The decision was made unanimously between three Appeal Court judges, who supported a High Court ruling that government leaflets had falsely encouraged people to stay in pension schemes .

However, the Department of Work and Pensions are now looking for an appeal to the House of Lords to have the judgement overturned. The test case was brought against the government by four pensioners, represented by Dr. Rod Altmann.
