Royal Mail fighting to save pensions

Wed, 27 Feb 2008

The Royal Mail could close their pension scheme nationwide, but employees will not give up without a fights. The pension scheme would be adjusted, with retirement age increased and a reduction in pension scheme benefits .

The Royal Mail claim that the only way in which they can save their pensions scheme and stop up their shortfall is to make the changes. From April 1st this year, the final salary pension scheme will be closed, although a nationwide strike is expected.

New staff at the company will be offered pension schemes with lower benefits. The management of the firm are moving fast, according to news reports, catching postal workers’ union CWU off guard.
