David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative party, has made it clear that the very generous final salary pension schemes offered to MPs should now be shut down, in line with reforms across the board for pensions .
Cameron stated that in order to look other state employees in the eye, pension reform for MPs was essential. He called the idea of letting the final salary scheme continue not appropriate.
Cameron proposed an alternative, saying that MPS should start with a defined contribution scheme. He reportedly commented: "If we really want to look other state sector, public sector employees in the eye, and say we really do need to look at pension arrangements and reform pension arrangements and make sure they're affordable, we have to look at our own pension arrangement."
