Government called on to help women pensions situation

Wed, 15 Oct 2008

The insurance company and pension provider Scottish Widows has called on the government to introduce further incentives to try and encourage women to save money in pension schemes for their retirement .

According to recent studies into women and pensions, under 50 per cent are saving an adequate amount of money, compared to some 55 per cent of men. These women could therefore be vulnerable to poverty in retirement .

The head of pensions market development at Scottish Widows, Ian Naismith, reportedly commented: "These are difficult times for everyone and perhaps especially so for those with dependent children. However, it is still important that women, as well as men, recognise the importance of saving for old age as well as for the shorter term."
