Aviva is worldwide provider of life and pension products, formerly known in the UK as Norwich Union. It is the largest insurance company in the UK and sixth largest in the world.
The company's roots can be traced back to Norwich in 1797, when an insurer was founded for buildings, goods and merchandise in the event of fire. Initially a mutual, the company floated on the stock exchange in 1997.
It now has over 53 million customers in 28 countries around the world and long-term savings account for over 70% of revenue received by the group.
